Certain artists carry such a mystique about them that when there’s a momentary break in character, fans are left feeling confused.

That may be the case if you tuned into the newest episode of American Dad!, as The Weeknd made a cameo on Monday night.

It may come as a surprise, but The Weeknd is a stout fan of the animated series. “I’m a longtime fan of the show. I’ve been watching since high school but I really appreciated it about seven years ago. It’s been running for so long, and I feel like it has a real cult following.” he told Variety.

Not only is he starring in the episode, he also debuted a new song as well.

The song is called “I’m a Virgin’ and was co-written with Asa Taccone. “When you hear the song you’ll understand that it’s specifically for the show,” he said. While it looks like “I’m a Virgin” won’t be appearing on one of his future albums, you can give it a listen below.

The Weeknd aimed to poke fun at himself and his public persona when he was working on this episode. “I always wanted to play a character that was the opposite of the public’s perception of me - and of course make fun of myself. Once I was given the opportunity I took complete advantage. Joel Hurwitz believed in the vision and he helped execute it beautifully,” he said.

While this is certainly a highlight, The Weeknd noted there’s only one other show that could top American Dad!. “An obvious bucket list would be to work on The Simpsons. That would be a dream - and if they’re reading this, I actually have a pretty cool idea if they’re down.” he said.
