‘As Good As It Gets,’ ‘Sweet Bird of Youth’ Star Shirley Knight Dies at 83

Actress Shirley Knight, who starred in films such as “As Good as It Gets” and “Sweet Bird of Youth,” has died. She was 83.

Knight passed away from natural causes in San Marcos, Texas, according to Variety.

Her daughter, Kaitlin Hopkins, paid tribute to her memory in an emotional Facebook post.

“Early this morning April 22nd you passed away, and your sweet soul left us for a better place,” Hopkin wrote.  “I was at your side and you went peacefully.”

Throughout her career, Knight received two Oscar nominations and won a Tony and three Emmys.

Her long list of credits on the big screen include roles in "The Dark at the Top of the Stairs," " Endless Love," "Angel Eyes" and "The Salton Sea."

In addition, she appeared on television programs such as "Murder, She Wrote," "NYPD Blue," "Law & Order," and "Desperate Houswives."
